Can you describe the extent of any relevant work experience you might have?
Although I have not had direct experience working within the industry, I have participated in multiple external projects while at Escape that have provided me with insights and experience on how to work in a larger team and delve deeper into the VFX pipeline. Apart from Escape, I have a job in hospitality that has assisted me in becoming more proficient during my learning process, as the industry consistently requires individuals to acquire new skills, particularly regarding the software we utilise. Additionally, this role has taught me other essential skills that are necessary for progress in the industry, such as effective communication and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the "AFK" project, I was a 2D Artist. This year, the group project operated more like a real VFX facility would do, where we received a brief from an external company (In our case the Animation department) and were tasked with creating and integrating our visual effects. While I did not take on a higher role, I consistently contributed to the project by assisting where necessary while simultaneously focusing on my primary tasks, such as Cleanups, Rotoscoping and CG integration.
What do you specialise in and what made you choose that specialism?
My specialism choice has been Paint and Roto, I have decided to pursue this path because it is an in-demand skill in the industry for Junior Compositors to prepare plates for compositing and to give them the time to enhance their skillset while starting from an entry-level position.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
Paint and Roto Artist.
Which of your student projects are you most proud of, and why?
"Cursed Bond" stands out as the project I am most proud of. Primarily due to the team involved in its creation, but also because I have read the series of books upon which it is based. That made the work on the project even better since it established a personal connection to it. One of the shots assigned to me required tracking pages to be replaced with our design but while filming we forgot to add any tracking markers onto the pages; to help me with the tracking I collaborated with a person for the 3D Department and through this collaborative process we successfully identified a solution. I am very happy with the outcome and the way we have achieved it.
What’s a piece of media (film, game, animation) that changed the way you think about your discipline?
The answer to the question involves a mix of media from all three categories. But overall, I would say "Wicked" is the one that stands out the most among all the recent movies. It's been one of the movies I've been eagerly waiting for, and I was blown away by the work of Framestore's CG Compositors. Their help to the set design team in creating stunning indoor and outdoor sets showcases the incredible power of digital artists to help the storytelling even more.
