SHOWREEL

GET TO KNOW CARA

Can you describe the extent of any relevant work experience you might have?

As yet, I have not had any industry experience. I have been to events and talks that include Dreamworks, the VFX Festival, showreel reviews, and the Bring Your own Animation event. From these, I feel I have made some valuable connections and gained good knowledge and information, particularly from animators currently in the industry.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

My contribution to this group project, 'Night Terrors' was Lead Animator. I worked on the hero shot of the film and completed an animation pass. I wanted to make sure everyone still had their personal touch to their individual shots and that the animation pass was just to keep consistency. I gave feedback to my team throughout the project until the Director and I were happy with the level everyone had achieved. Of course we faced a lot of challenges but my role required quick solutions and alternatives for the better of the film.

What do you specialise in and what made you choose that specialism?

I currently specialise in character animation. My specific favourites within this are facial animation and subtleties. I love the power that minimal and precise movements give the overall piece, it really brings the character and entire shot to life and can create so many opportunities for stylistic choices.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

Ideally my starting role in the industry would be a Junior Animator.

Which of your student projects are you most proud of, and why?

The project I am most proud of is my first ever group project film, 'Checkmate'. It has won 5 international awards and received accolades. As Director of this film, along with my team, it was my first experience of a group project and gave me the ability and confidence to blend and understand all areas of film making. This has given me the drive and passion moving forward in my studies and hopefully into the industry.

What’s a piece of media (film, game, animation) that changed the way you think about your discipline?

As per most animators, Disney was the biggest influence for my interest and love for animation. As early as primary school where I once told a teacher "I want to work for Disney" I have always kept that passion. Watching characters and the use of cinematography throughout film, has kept me consistently inspired and disciplined, to one day hopefully, be part of a team that creates stories which leave an impact on future audiences.
