SHOWREEL

GET TO KNOW CATINCA

Can you describe the extent of any relevant work experience you might have?

So far I haven't had the chance to work in the industry, but I have attended numerous talks where industry professionals have given great advice about how to start your career in the industry and what makes a portfolio stand out. Additionally, I went, and still going to Bring Your Own Animation where I have the chance to meet with industry professionals who can over my work and tell me what to improve.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

For my group project 'Socks to be you' I was one of the lead animators. My job was not to just animate, but also, to supervise half of the team of animators and check on their progress so that the shots looked the way the director had envisioned them. As the animation style was pretty cartoony, but also had to have a realistic feel to it since the movie is live-action, I had to take extra care so that there were no popping or intersections that would disrupt the animation.

What do you specialise in and what made you choose that specialism?

I have decided to specialise in character animation because I enjoy giving life to characters and telling the story through body movement and lip sync. Through character animation, I can act and put my imagination into the character without being on an actual stage.

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

My ideal first role would be junior character animator.

Which of your student projects are you most proud of, and why?

I am very proud of my specialism projects because I was able to experiment with my animations on a different level through different types of audio, specifically, those that consisted of powerful voices and sounds. Which enabled me to really push my characters and get outside of my comfort. I am also very proud of my group projects because I got experience working together with a team and have a taste of what the future could be like in the industry.

What’s a piece of media (film, game, animation) that changed the way you think about your discipline?

A piece of media that made me want to become an animator is Star Wars The Clone Wars. I have been a massive Star Wars fan since I was little, and I used to watch The Clone Wars series a lot. After watching the behind-the-scenes footage and seeing how much work and passion the animators put in, I decided that this was the path that I wanted to take.
