GET TO KNOW HUSSEIN
Can you describe the extent of any relevant work experience you might have?
I've attended many gatherings and seminars. It may not have been industry work but team projects really gave me a feel for what's expected of me moving forward.
How would you describe your contribution to your group project?
In the project 'Mob Boss Barkino', my role was to be lead previsualization artist. It was an original piece that incorporated scenes from famous films and shows such as pulp fiction, batman, bad guys and more. It was a challenge figuring out how to set up the 2D storyboards in 3D.
What do you specialise in and what made you choose that specialism?
I specialize in rigging. The reason for which I chose this course is because I have been introduced to the animation industry by the rigging artist "Kiel Figgins". His rigs are very well known for their ease of use and and many of which are free. I hope to be as good as them someday and I believe that knowing how to rig will help me in the future if I ever find myself doing freelance work.
While I did specialize in rigging, I don't forget to practice my animation skills. I think the best way to showcase a rig is through an animation.
What would your ideal first role in the industry be?
I do want to be a generalist but realistically, I believe a technical artist as a first job would be great.
Which of your student projects are you most proud of, and why?
Mob Boss Barkino' is the project I'm most proud of because it took a lot of time and effort to make. Everything was smooth sailing. We got to brainstorm ideas for some of the shots. Shooting references was also enlightening.
What’s a piece of media (film, game, animation) that changed the way you think about your discipline?
I think I would give that to a rigging artist on youtube named 'Art Bully'. His rigging showreels are always fun to watch. I always thought that 3D animation was the only route I could pick but, through his work, I discovered other career paths.
