SHOWREEL

GET TO KNOW JOSHUA

Can you describe the extent of any relevant work experience you might have?

I haven't yet been able to have any direct work experience within the industry, but I have taken on two 3D commissions from my previous college which gave me the experience of working with a client and working to a deadline. In addition to that I have attended as many seminars and talks as were available to me within and occasionally outside of uni.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

I believe I've invested a lot into every group project I've been in, directing two projects in my time. Generally speaking however I've always tried to take on multiple roles to improve my overall abilities and to best realise the vision of the projects, doing roles such as lighting, environment/asset/character modelling, texturing, rendering and of course animation. Whilst I mainly contribute to modelling and animation, I love (almost) everything CG and like being involved in as much of the process as possible.

What do you specialise in and what made you choose that specialism?

I chose to explore a cartoony or exaggerated style for animation because I'm really interested in this particular area of animation and it's something I love to look at and want to develop, and it always brings a smile to my face :)

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

Ideally it would be as a junior animator given some relatively simple shots and time to properly learn and soak in a professional environment.

Which of your student projects are you most proud of, and why?

My mind immediately goes to 'Mob Boss Barkino', the first third year project I did and was executed near perfectly from concept with a team that was super talented and on the same page, which meant a lot less stress and disagreement and a much more fulfilling result in the end. Just a really fun and well executed idea too, and has some of my best looking work.

What’s a piece of media (film, game, animation) that changed the way you think about your discipline?

Bit cliche but Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. Absolutely blew my mind when I first saw it and I left so excited, and this was before I even considered animation as a career. Still go back to it all the time and still find new things to admire about it.
