SHOWREEL

GET TO KNOW MAHRUKH

Can you describe the extent of any relevant work experience you might have?

Although I haven't had direct experience in the industry, I have spoken to industry professionals, which has given me a strong understanding of the expectations and requirements of entering the field.

How would you describe your contribution to your group project?

In the project 'Socks To Be You', my main role was Art Director followed by Storyboard Artist and Concept Artist. I had to pick a style for the film and I decided that it would look best if we took inspiration from how 'Toy Story' looks. A lot of my concept art for the assets and the film's overall look is inspired by the colour schemes of Toy Story. However, as this was a VFX collab there would have to be some minor adjustments made to the colours of the shots we filmed and the overall final render of the movie so that it looked coherent and that everything in the movie worked well together.

What do you specialise in and what made you choose that specialism?

I specialise in creature animation and I chose this because I love watching animal documentaries and studying the way animals move, I also like to study the characteristics of the animals based on the way they move

What would your ideal first role in the industry be?

Freelance Creature Animator

Which of your student projects are you most proud of, and why?

I am most proud of 'Countdown;' and 'Socks To Be You' as I feel that these two movies showcased the best of my skills and abilities and allowed me to challenge myself and pick up new skills along the way.

What’s a piece of media (film, game, animation) that changed the way you think about your discipline?

I would say the 'How To Train Your Dragon' franchise changed the way I thought about animation, before this, I wanted to follow character animation as I was inspired by 'Tangled' but after rewatching the HTTYD franchise I began to view creature animation in a different light and I knew it was something I wanted to follow and pursue in the future.
